After her mother's death, she was raised in an orphanage (1956\u20131961). In 1961, she graduated from secondary school No. 7 in Grodno and entered the Faculty of Philology of the Belarusian State University. In 1963, she transferred to the correspondence department, which she graduated in 1967. She worked as a teacher in the village of Ruba in the Vitebsk region, a merchandiser in the Vitebsk regional bookstore (1964), an instructor, head of a sector in the Grodno city committee of the Komsomol (1965\u20131968), and an editor at the regional television studio (1968\u20131970). In 1970\u20131973, she was a literary employee of the newspaper \"Literature and Art\", then a literary consultant for the newspaper \"\u010cyrvonaja zmiena\". In 1975\u20131978, she was a postgraduate student at the Literary Institute in Moscow. In 1978\u20131979, she again worked as a literary consultant at \"\u010cyrvonaja zmiena\". In 1985\u20131989, she was the editor-in-chief of literary and dramatic programs on Belarusian television. Since 1989 - head of the department, since 1990 - deputy editor-in-chief of the magazine \"Heritage\". In 1991-1995, Olga Ipatova was editor-in-chief of the newspaper \"Culture\". From 1998 to 2001 - deputy chairman, and from 2001 to 2002 - chairman of the Union of Belarusian Writers. In 2009, she joined the public organizing committee \"Millennium of Lithuania\". The organizing committee's address stated that the name Lithuania refers to the ancient territory of Belarus, and current Belarusians called themselves Litvins until the beginning of the 20th
